The Way We Work

We read your policy before you have a claim.

Most policies look the same on the application form. They are not the same in the wording. The difference shows up the day you make a claim — not the day you bought the policy.

At Prime we go through the wording before the policy is bound. We ask the questions the insurer will ask later. We flag the exclusions that catch people out. We tell you what is covered, what is not, and what an endorsement would change. The work is done up front so you are not learning your policy for the first time on the worst day of your year.

Most insurance problems do not start at claim time. They start when the policy is bought too quickly.

The questions we ask before binding

  • Are the unit-owner improvements in your condo covered by the strata policy, or do you need contingent contents?
  • Does your personal auto policy permit the business use you actually do?
  • Has Guaranteed Replacement Cost lapsed on your 1980s Surrey home because the limits have not moved with construction costs?
  • Does your Super Visa quote require the stability window your visiting parent's medication just crossed?

It is slower than a comparison-site quote. It takes a real conversation. And it is the reason our clients stay year after year — because the first time their policy is tested is also the first time it pays.

Named Accountability

You will know the name of the person who wrote your policy.

Every Prime file has a named advisor on it. Not a call-centre queue. Not a different person each time you ring. The advisor who quoted you is the advisor who binds the policy, sends the documents, answers your renewal questions, and walks you through your claim.

Life insurance is written personally by Kul Shergill, Senior Advisor and founder. Kul has been licensed in life insurance in British Columbia since 1988 and is the sole life specialist on the team. Auto, home, and commercial files are handled by our other eleven licensed advisors — each with documented tenure, named on the page, available by first name at the counter.

When you call and ask for Kuljeet, or Kamal, or Mark, you reach Kuljeet, or Kamal, or Mark. That is the whole point of being family-owned and family-staffed.

Open When You Need Us

Open at 8:30 in the morning. Open until 9:00 at night Monday through Friday. Open Saturday until 6:30. Open Sundays and statutory holidays 10:00 to 5:30. The doors are open when most offices are not, because the people who need insurance work the same hours we do.

English, Punjabi, and Hindi — every day.

Most of our advisors speak Punjabi or Hindi alongside English. One of them also speaks Malay. For a newcomer family setting up their first policy, a Surrey parent bringing in-laws from India on a Super Visa, a multi-generational household with three drivers on one address, or a small-business owner reviewing a commercial wording — the conversation happens in the language you think in. Not just the language you get by in.

We work for you. Not for one insurer.

Prime is an independent insurance brokerage. We hold appointments with multiple insurers across home, commercial, life, and travel — and we put those carriers in competition for your file when we quote. The carrier we recommend is the carrier whose wording and price fit your situation best. We tell you which one won, and why. Not because we are tied to them. Because we are not.

For ICBC Autoplan, the basic rate is set by ICBC and is the same at every licensed broker in British Columbia. What changes is how the policy is handled, how quickly the paperwork is done, and who you call when something goes wrong. That is the part we control.

Kul and Gurpal Shergill incorporated Prime Insurance on May 30, 1994 at 150-8888 152A St and have never moved. The first Autoplan client Kul ever wrote a policy for — back in April 1990 — is still with Prime today, renewal after renewal. The first dealership we ever partnered with is still a Prime partner. The same family is still at the door.

That kind of continuity is unusual. It is also the reason we can tell you what we will be doing in five years, ten years, twenty years. Because that is what we have been doing for thirty-two.
